On March 14 -16 in Clearwater, Florida, the 9 boys team members from Park Avenue Gymnastics of Cooper City topped the entire state of Florida by winning 20 State Titles including the Level 4 Team division, as well as, qualifying 4 individuals to the Regional Championships.

Members of the Level 4 State Championship Team included: Benjamin Aguilar (7) of Davie, Luke Freed(8) of Davie, Liam Gilberd (8) of Ft. Lauderdale, and Chase Graziadei (7) of Plantation.    Benjamin was State Champion on Floor, Pommel Horse, Parallel Bars, High Bar and All-Around.  Luke was State Champion on Floor, Parallel Bars and All-Around.

In the level 5 division, Ryan Colon (9) of Miramar, finished 3rd in the All-Around and was State Champion on vault, parallel bars and floor.  Ryan also qualified to the Regional Competition.

The level 6 boys finished 5th place team.  They were led by Tyler Flowers (11) of Miami, who finished 3rd in the All-Around and was State Champion on floor.  Jayden Delgado (9) of Coral Springs was 3rd on rings. Tyler and Jayden also advanced to Regionals.

In the level 8 division, Will Gomez, 13 of Miramar, crushed the competition en route to winning his first competition of the year.  Will won the State Title on floor, vault, parallel bars, high bar and the All-Around.  Will also qualified to the Regional Competition.

The girl’s team from Park Avenue Gymnastics of Cooper City competed in their State Meets on March 21st – 23rd in Clearwater and March 28-30 in Ft. Myers and crushed the competition bringing home a total of 39 State Titles, including the Level 6 Team Title and 18 Regional Qualifiers.

Starting the marathon in Clearwater, Florida was the Level 6 Team and they started right by winning the title with a very impressive 115.35.  The highest score recorded in the State of Florida and the 3rd best in the country!  The team was led by several outstanding performances including all-around winners: Isabella Loor (11,Miramar) Emma Whitton (12,Davie) Maria Andarcia-Jimenez (12, Key Biscayne), Melanie Stone (11,Weston), Hannah Egert (10,Davie), and Margaret Copello (13,Pembroke Pines ) who had a Four Event Sweep!  The Level 6 girls also recorded 14 individual titles.

The Level 9 team was next facing a very big challenge of competing in the large team division with only 5 athletes, but the girls battled strong and finished in 6th place.  Leading the Level 9’s and winning the beam title was Rachel Bumbu (16,Davie )  Rachel also finished 2nd on bars and in the All-Around.  Finishing 3rd in the All-Around and 2nd on beam was Samara Eisenberg (15, Weston).  Also finishing 3rd in the All-Around and on bars and beam was Lindsey Pascucci(16,Davie)  Rachel, Samara, Lindsey, as well as, Michelle Eisenberg (15, Weston) and Brooke Hagerott(16, Weston) all qualified to the Regional competition to be held in Kennisaw, Georgia.

In Ft. Myers the Level 7’s took to the mat and finished a very respectable 4th place team being the top team from the Tri-County area.  Leading the penguins with a 1st Place All-Around victory was Leah Barnes (13, Miramar). Also winning State All-Around Titles were: Alyssa Gonzalez (14,Miami) and Rachel Shapiro (15,North Miami ).  The Level 7 girls also recorded 8 individual titles. Qualifying to Regionals in Concord, NC was: Leah, Alyssa, Rachel, Dinah, Gaby, Isabella, Lauren, and Martina.

The Level 8 team was lead to a 6th place finish by Portia Durden (14,Miramar).  Portia finished 3rd in the All-Around and Vault and was the State runner-up on Bars and Beam.  Winning the State Beam Title and finishing third on vault and the All-Around was Alyssa Cavazos (13 Pembroke Pines).  Also winning State Beam Titles were Courtney Cooke (12, Weston) and Jessica Klein (16, Pembroke Pines).  Qualifying to the Level 8 Regional Competition was Courtney, Alyssa and Portia.

Finishing the season en route to qualifying for Nationals, the penguins of Park Avenue were stellar in their Regional Competitions. On the Men’s side, Level 6 Tyler Flowers was the Regional Vault Champion. Level 8, Will Gomez was the Regional Vault Champion and qualified to J.O. Nationals which are being in Long Beach, California on May 9th – 11th.

Rachel Bumbu was the Level 9 Regionals Champion on Bars and finished 2nd in the All-Around to earn her spot at the J.O. Eastern Nationals being held in Bradenton, Florida on May 3rd-4th.

The coaches and staff of Park Avenue are very proud of all of our athlete’s success. It shows that through hard work and perseverance and trusting in their training and abilities, anything and everything is possible.
